Jak Boumans (1945) BA, MDiv. is principal consultant with Electronic Media Reporting, an electronic publishing consultancy specialised in content strategy, based at Utrecht (The Netherlands). He has been active in publishing since 1970, starting to specialise in electronic publishing from 1980. In 1984 he brought the first European daily newsletter for the computer industry online for VNU BP in London. He co-produced a series of first commercial CD-ROMs. In 1990 he started Electronic Media Reporting, performing strategy studies, doing market scans, executing project audits and organising conferences and workshops From 1997 to 2000 he was a senior consultant with the TNO. Jak Boumans has regularly been a project evaluator, reviewer and expert for the European Commission in the field of electronic publishing, multimedia and content. From 2002 till 2004 he was one of the work package leader of the EU project ACTeN. He also was a tutor in the EU Media projects X-Melina and INYOP on cross media.
Jak Boumans is General Secretary of the European Academy of Digital Media (EADiM), a network with 125 multimedia experts in 28 European countries. EADiM has organised the European Instructors’ Network. The World Summit Award was started with the support of EADiM in 2003. Jak Boumans writes extensively in English and in Dutch. In 1980 he was the first European contributor to the Online Chronicle fortnightly newsletter on Dialog. He has been a contributor and editor-in-chief of the Dutch newsletter Media-Info/Telecombrief. He has now a daily blog on internet and runs the monthly international newsletter Content Market Monitor. Jak Boumans has been a jury member for several competitions (EUROPRIX, EUROPRIX TTA, the Dutch Z Awards and the EPPY Awards). He is one of the organisers of the Dutch multimedia competition EUROPRIX.nl since 2003 and organised the national pre-selection competition for World Summit Award (2005).
