What I can say is, that e-content in Burundi is at its very early stage. There are very few web sites that exist, and they are largely known. In addition, some ICT applications can be found being used and created for the use across corporate businesses, for the efficiency of the businesses. In other words, enterprise computing is common to find, but a common Burundian is far away from the concept of e-content. Perhaps, a common Burundian does not even know this word called e-content.

The most developed area in Burundi for e-content is e-biz, which in other words is better known as enterprise wise e-management applications. That means the applications made in order to manage some enterprises. There are some initiatives in e-inclusion as well, where people can learn office software. But all the other domains are almost non-existent.

The progress of development of e-content in Burundi is extremely slow. If you look at the timeliness: in 1997, first Internet Service Provider (ISP) was set up by the name of CBINET (www.cbinf.com). In 2000, second ISP was setup, know as USAN (www.usan-bu.net). In 2001, Base International, a private startup web services was setup (www.baseint.net).

In Burundi, the biggest problem is that people are not informed on the importance of ICT. In addition of this, the ICT infrastructures are very few. Even if someone develops an individual initiative, he does not get any sustenance. Developing basic infrastructures like electricity, telephone lines, Introducing computer trainings in schools, Abolishing all taxes on material and computer services, setting up a campaign.about ICT across the country.

In order to quickly develop e-content in Burundi, computer trainings must be introduced in schools of Burundi. The bandwidth of internet connection must be enlarged in addition of the installation of new phone lines and electricity in all the parts of Burundi.
